Which tile cutter length for 60×60 and larger tiles?
60×60 cm is the most common floor tile today, and the obvious answer – a 60 cm cutter for 60 cm tiles – is only half right. The cutting length depends on the tile side, on whether you cut diagonally and on the tile thickness.
Cutting length: tile side or diagonal?
For straight cuts of 60×60 cm tiles a cutter with a 600–650 mm cutting length is enough. The diagonal of a 60×60 tile, however, is about 85 cm. If you lay tiles diagonally or cut corners at an angle, you need a cutting length of at least 850 mm – in practice a 1200 mm cutter.
- straight cuts of 60×60 and 30×60 tiles – a 600–650 mm cutter,
- diagonal cuts of 60×60 tiles – at least 850 mm, in practice a 1200 mm cutter,
- 60×120 tiles – a 1200 mm cutter.
Tile thickness – the second thing to check
Light cutters are made for thinner wall tiles. For thick porcelain stoneware check the maximum tile thickness in the specifications: the TitanCut 650, TitanCut 1200 and Extra Line 650 cut tiles up to 16 mm.
Which WERTEC cutter for which job
- TitanCut 650 – a green laser shows the cutting line, an LED lights the tile, three bearing-mounted wheels are included, tiles up to 16 mm; the set weighs 12 kg.
- Extra Line 650 – 650 mm with a green laser and LED, tiles up to 16 mm: a little spare length for 60×60.
- TitanCut 1200 – one cutter for 60×60 diagonals and 60×120 tiles: laser, LED, tiles up to 16 mm; the set weighs 16 kg.
- BisonCut 1200 and Extra Line 1200 – 1200 mm cutters for tiles up to 120 cm.
When the laser and LED light help
Most tiles end up in the bin because of a misaligned cutting line – especially on diagonal cuts and narrow strips. The green laser projects the cutting line onto the tile before the wheel touches it, so you see at once whether you hit your mark. The LED light helps in bathrooms without windows, in basements and on site in the evening.
What else to check
- Scoring wheel – replaceable and matched to the cutter head. A worn wheel is the most common reason a tile breaks off the line; replacement wheels are in spare parts.
- Foam or rubber on the bed – the tile lies steady and does not get scratched.
- Transport – wheels and a carriage lock make it easier to move the cutter around the site.
Frequently asked questions
Which tile cutter for 60×60 tiles?
For straight cuts a 600–650 mm cutter is enough, for example the TitanCut 650 or Extra Line 650. For diagonal cuts choose a 1200 mm cutter.
Can a 60 cm cutter cut a 60×60 tile diagonally?
No. The diagonal of a 60×60 tile is about 85 cm, so you need a cutting length of at least 850 mm – in practice a 1200 mm cutter such as the TitanCut 1200.
Which tile cutter for 60×120 tiles?
A 1200 mm cutter, e.g. the TitanCut 1200. It also cuts 60×60 tiles diagonally.
Why does the tile break next to the line?
Most often because of a worn scoring wheel. Replace it with a wheel of the same dimensions.
